Nothing quite terrifies/fascinates me more than a daring tightrope walk - well, except maybe giant squids. In The Circus, the Tramp fills in for the tightrope walker hoping to win the affection of a young acrobat. Naturally, with the help of some monkeys and a faulty harness, hilarity ensues. And if you don't want the ending of the movie spoiled for you, stop this clip around the 6:00 mark.
An interesting article on the viewing of rare books, from the New York Times. A lot of seemingly private resources, particularly at schools and universities, are in fact accessible to the public- often it requires nothing more than to ask in advance. Remember to bring your white gloves!
